Unique Marketing Strategy Of Chips Maicih
I'm a curious type of person. But not gumun (in Javanese). The more I wonder, the more I want to know.
Few days ago, my sister Runni talks about Maicih chips or Spicy Cassava chips which have spiciness level, from 1 to 10. 1 is the least spicy and 10 is the most spicy. Actually I am never tried the chips because I'm not so fond of spicy food. Maybe that's because most of Jogja's food is sweet. But if a friend is willing to treat me to eat Padang Food, then I will gladly accept.
Driven by my curiosity, when a friend from Bandung came, I order one pack from him. The rumors were true. The chips was really hot! I only eat a little, but then I need to drink more than 2 glasses of water. I was only order level 5. What will level 10 taste like??!
There was nothing special about the packaging. I think the sensation of spiciness was more important. But I saw the back of the package, and found something interesting. The text reads: "From every purchase of a product Maicih, you contributed Rp 100, - for the preservation of the environment." I think this is very extraordinary. We could eat and give charity at the same time.
According to what I read from my sister, Maicih chips also have a unique marketing strategy. They will move their selling-spot according to their twitter update. So if we want to know where is the location of the Maicih shop, we must follow their twitter and always update their latest status.
I think moving around according to twitter update, is a unique way of marketing strategy. Unlike other foods which already have an exact place to buy. This type of strategy is something that can become good example. Although it could be a little trouble, because we need at least four-wheeled vehicle with a huge baggage to store chips. But in other point of view, we can see that the people who follow Maicih updates means they are fanatics fans. So if we are producing certain product with fanatics consumer, we can use this method.
